The first day-long IAMSE courses in faculty development are provided during the 2002 Annual Association Meeting in Guadalajara, Mexico. The goal is
to offer courses for basic science faculty that are unique, relevant, and unavailable elsewhere. |

IAMSE is invited to join the Council of Academic Societies. The Council of Academic Societies, along with the Council of Deans and the Council of
Teaching Hospitals comprise the three bodies which govern the Association of American Medical Colleges. |

The Basic Science Educator evolves into the Journal of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (JIAMSE) and a dynamic new
Editor-in-Chief is appointed (Dr. Douglas Gould, University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center). His charge is to bring this semi-annual publication
into line with other world-class professional journals. |

Arrangements are made to publish the Journal of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (JIAMSE) in three languages, English,
Spanish, and French. |

The concept of Webcast Audio Seminars is developed and auditioned in the inaugural Spring Series of four. This is followed by a Winter Series of six
1-hour seminars addressing the theme Recent Trends in Basic Science Education. Acceptance of this format by the IAMSE membership and the
medical education community at large is overwhelming. |

Plans are consummated to offer a joint-membership option in IAMSE and the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE). This will become
effective January 1, 2003. |

Membership in IAMSE increases to be represented by 50 countries. |
