Speaker Introduction

Des Anges Cruser, PhD, MPA


des Anges Cruser, PhD, MPA holds an adjunct appointment of Associate Professor at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas, in medical education and behavioral sciences. She held a regular faculty appointment at TCOM for 10 years, and held previous appointments at medical schools in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Dr. Cruser's PhD is in social psychology and family systems. Her career has primarily involved research, teaching, and leadership roles in public mental health systems in several states and nationally, as well as leadership roles with the national Osteopathic Research Center. She has been the CEO of a large state hospital, served as deputy commissioner for two state mental health and substance abuse agencies, directed psychiatry programs in community programs and in jails and prisons, as well as residency training programs. She has supervised and mentored over 100 graduate students in nursing, social work, psychology and medicine, served on thesis and doctoral committees as member and major professor. Dr. Cruser has served both as PI and Co-I in four NIH sponsored research and teaching studies/projects (K-30, U-19, R25, and R21). Her clinical, policy, and academic research publications span 40 years. She was the lead author of a monograph for Medical Science Educator on emerging global core competencies for physicians and their relationship to research literacy. She has produced a graduate e-learning course for basic practitioner research literacy skills based on contemporary education theory and practice.
