Dr. S. Michael Plaut, Ph.D. |
|
|
Dr. Plaut received his
doctorate in psychology from the University
of Rochester in 1969. From 1973 to 2008, he
was on the faculty of the University of
Maryland School of Medicine, in the
Department of Psychiatry, also serving for
30 years as Assistant Dean for Student
Affairs. He is certified as both a sex
educator and sex therapist and is a former
Editor of the Journal of Sex Education
and Therapy, Past-President of the
Society for Sex Therapy and Research, and
for many years was course director for the
Intimate Human Behavior course at the School
of Medicine. He served on Maryland's Board
of Examiners of Psychologists from 1982 to
1985, chairing the Board for two years.
Since that time, he has published a number
of articles on the subject of
professional-client boundaries and has
lectured on this topic to both professional
and public groups. He has served as expert
witness in both licensing and civil cases,
consulted to victims, and developed
educational rehabilitation programs for
offenders. From 1994 to 1996, he chaired
Maryland's 24-member Task Force to Study
Health Professional-Client Sexual
Exploitation. He serves on both the Board of
Directors and the Advisory Board of the
website advocateweb.org, which provides
information and support to both victims and
professionals. He recently co-authored a
book on the evaluation and treatment of
sexual dysfunction, written for primary care
providers. Dr. Plaut is now in private
practice in Hampstead, North Carolina. |
